Here's what you need to know about D.L. Menard if you've never seen him on stage: even if you couldn't hear a thing going on, you could see the music in every move he makes– when he gets that twinkle in his eyes looking at someone in the crowd, when he wags his finger at a friend and cracks a joke, when he laughs with his whole body–and all this before playing a note.

Yes, D.L. Menard is a great musician who puts everything he has into his singing, but he does the same with all of his life, and it's that vitality that makes it a joy to watch every minute of his performance.

The photos on this page were taken at Festival International in Lafayette in April 2002.
