The Mamou Mardi Gras Courir continues to
attract more attention from the news media than any other run. The media gather along with
a lot of other onlookers for the first stop of the day in a vacant lot next to the Piggly
Wiggly Grocery Store on the outskirts of Mamou. Should viewers of the 6 o'clock news take every word spoken by a Mardi Gras
covered in straw and hidden behind a bizarre mask as the straight-forward truth? Find out
tonight on Channel 7.
As the other pictures on this page illustrate, the morning
began foggy. After leaving the American Legion Hall, the Mardi Gras headed down 6th Street
past Fred's Lounge and then east on Poinciana Avenue toward the first stop.
The music wagon at the head of the courir is shown in the bottom photo.
