For all of the full-time participants in the Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week, the activities include a wide range of workshops and other programs all day long. But nearby residents who can't attend full time but are interested in a particular afternoon workshop can sign up for a "Local Lagniappe" session--either hands-on instruction or a demonstration workshop in which participants watch and learn. Cajun and Creole music is a folk tradition, passed from one generation, experienced and absorbed directly through encounters similar to those offered in the small groups sessions during DBCCHW.
